If you thought these were erratic before, they’re about to get so much worse. It’s the end of the summer, which involves a lot of extended-family time for me, and I have a big-ass extended family. My next few weeks will be less about “Doing Stuff” and more about clinging to the last vestiges of what I like to think of as sanity.
Remember back when I started and I was taking a step to becoming a grown up every day? Before I reverted back to being 15? Well I actually have one of those this week, I took and passed my driver theory test. Although seeing as that’s something most people do at 15, I might not be able to count it. Anyway it happened, I have a new found hatred for pedestrians and soon I shall be that little bit more self-sufficient.
In other grown-up news, I’ve started searching for some place to live in Limerick for when I go back in September. I’ve spent the last four years in sheltered on-campus apartments, but that won’t be possible this year so I going out in to the real world to find a room. The great thing is that as a postgrad female, I am a commodity. I am a much more preferable tenant than some first year business student who’s never lived away from home before. Hurray for profiling! Little do they know, while I might not get out much, I’m going to stain the shower horribly. Which brings me on nicely to my next order of business…
A question mark that has been hanging over me since I finished college is what colour my hair goes next. There’s a lot of pressure on what colour my hair is for graduation, since the picture is sort of iconic and WILL be going on the wall. This, combined with the fact that I might be a little bit hipster and everyone is dyeing bright these days (Thank you Kylie), is making finding a colour très difficile. I finally made a decision. I’m going to do a whole thing about this in the next week (I actually mean it this time, the post is already written) but in the meantime, I don’t include nearly enough pictures in my blog, so here is as much of my hair history as I can find photos of:
Dec ’08 In my early days I only went variations of red
March ’09 Semi-permanent ones at that
May ’09 About the time I started cutting my own hair because I couldn’t find a hairdresser willing to cut “all my lovely hair”. I kept it this short all through my leaving cert year (09-10)
July ’11 I let it grow unchecked and undyed for a year
Feb ’12 I remember being red when I started college but I can’t find a photo, over Christmas break I bleached it for the first time and a few weeks later I dyed it green. Manic Panic fades way too quickly.
April ’12 Unhappy with the weird minty tint, I lightened again and went full blonde in early March
May ’12 I went RED
Aug ’12 For my first year, I was bad at bleach, and my hair was in shit, so I hacked it off. First I shaved the sides and left the top long, before going for the pixie
March ’13 Growing the pixie was painful. I bleached again in early 2013 and went sort of pale purple
Sept ’13 This is the only picture of my dark green, I’m disassembling a kettle if you’re wondering.
Oct ’13 This is the point where I actually started taking pictures of my hair. Schwarzkopf started doing the Ultrabright colours and MY LIFE CHANGED
Dec ’13 I loved that colour, so I just left it grow out to my ends. Two months, never needed to refresh it.
Feb ’14 Before I went to NZ I went light blue. I refuse to crop this photo because it’s awesome.
April ’14 The NZ summer had it’s way with my hair. It was dry as fuck. The colour went greenier while I was there as the sun was fading it and I was topping up with a different shade (Crazy Colour Peacock Blue)
Oct ’14 Once I came back in July I put the pink in where my regrowth had been (I didn’t bleach from Jan-July). It’s sort of faded by here (Halloween)
Dec ’14 My roots were coming in again, so I went to dark to hold off on the bleach for a bit
Feb ’15 This picture is very posey and I’m sorry. I think I was trying to check the colour of the eyebrow pencil. The hair colour is a bit of a mix of some of the blues I had left over
May’ 15 My masterpiece, seen in my logo. pink to green spectrum. At this point the sheer volume of hair was getting unwieldy. My hair is incredibly thick and much too difficult when its long.
…So 2 weeks ago I took about 20cm off it.
Some of these are awful shots but very few photos of me between the ages of 2 and 20 exist.
